Leaders / Sports Captains

Sports Captains will be appointed either at the end of the pupils’ Grade 6 year or at the start of their Grade 7 year. 

The following criteria are taken into consideration when electing Sports’ Captains: 

1. LEADERSHIP – The ability to positively lead, control, motivate and assist fellow learners.  To offer assistance to coaches and to show initiative.

2. RESPONSIBILITY – Exhibits self-discipline, responsibility for own behaviour, respect for self, peers and teachers. Accepts responsibility.

3. ABILITY – The ability to partake in the sport at Inter-School level.  This does not mean that a pupil, who is the best in the sport, will automatically be the captain of that particular sport.

4. PRESENTATION – Always adhering to the rules of the school regarding appearance and behaviour. Displays good sportsmanship.

5. PRACTICE ATTENDANCE – A register is kept for all codes of sport to check that regular Attendance occurs.

6. RESPECT – Is respected by peers and staff

7. COMMUNICATION SKILLS – Able to communicate with peers/staff/parents.

Leaders

All Grade 7 pupils will have the opportunity to be leaders during the first term of their Grade 7 year. Their leadership ability will be monitored and discussed by the teachers on a regular basis.

Executive Leaders will be appointed at the end of the first term.

-   Voting will be done by Grade 6 & 7 pupils.  

-   A ‘Preliminary Prefect List’ will be drawn up showing the results of this vote.

-   Teachers will be given an opportunity to vote.

-   Teachers’ votes will be included on the ‘Preliminary List’ and the list will be finalised at a  Staff Meeting.

-    The number of Executive Leaders chosen will be determined by the leadership ability of the particular Grade 7 group as well as the number of classes in the Preparatory School. There is no particular number set down.

Choice of Head Leaders and Deputies will depend on the leadership potential of the particular group of Grade 7s and on the outcome of the voting. Deputies will ONLY be elected if there appears to be a call in that favour due to the result of the vote. There is NO hard and fast rule in this regard and can vary from year to year.

(The Criteria could be ranked as follows: Excellent 4, Good 3, Average 2, Ineffective 1 )

1. LEADERSHIP – Exhibits leadership qualities in class and at school activities. Ability to positively lead, control and assist fellow learners. To offer assistance & show initiative. 

2. RESPONSIBILITY – Exhibits self-discipline, responsibility for own behaviour, respect for  self, peers and teachers. Accepts responsibility.

3. COMMUNICATION SKILLS – Able to communicate with peers/staff/parents.

4. LOYALTY – Shows loyalty towards the school and its rules including promoting the school  dress code.

5. SERViCE – Makes an effort to participate and serve the school at various school offered  activities.

6. ACADEMIC APPROACH – Takes a diligent approach towards Academic Programme.

7. RESPECT – Is respected by peers and staff

The final decision on the selection of Executive Leaders and Sports Captains rests with the School Management Team after discussion and input from the relevant staff members and coaches
